After an eternity in Hollywood terms, new Hollywood parody movie Tropic Thunder has taken down the now 2nd highest grossing film of all time, The Dark Knight.

Thunder, having been released on a Wednesday, managed to do what the newest ‘Mummy’ and other suck films failed to do and to finally take down Nolan’s critically acclaimed film off the top spot by making $26m on it’s first week to TDK’s $19m.

But at this point, I’d personally say none of that matters to Warner Bros as The Dark Knight officially became the 2nd highest grossing film of all time only losing out to Titanic. It’s been established by Mr C.C. that that is where it’ll stay, but it’s still an achievement on a part of a film marred with controversy.

Speaking of controversial films, Tropic Thunder had a bit of that itself with ‘Retardgate‘ and don’t get me started on Robert Downey Jr. going Blackface for the film. Along with the film being a scaving expose on Hollywood and the audience it attracts, it’s not a tame film by any stretch of the imagination in terms of causing a fuss..

But for a film that only did $7m at the beginning of this week, it’s an achievement to top the Box office in it’s first week, but producers will have to hope that the film has legs to reach a much higher estimate in the hopes to at least be close to making a profit. Having said that, it goes on a much wider release not too long from now (UK release: 18th September) and the build has been almost as high as it has been in the States so maybe their fears could be lifted as soon as the beginning of October.
