Hey yo and welcome to another edition of Tales From The Fish. I am as always the friendly face of EntertainmentNewslines.com, Mr. C.C.. This week I will be looking at New Kids On The Block making or attempt to make a comeback. |
Unless you have been living under a rock for the last number weeks, than you know that the New Kids On The Block are doing their first live performance on an awards show in years. Quite possibly over ten years since a last award show performance. But who is keeping track? Oh, thats right, the hardcore New Kids On The Block fans. This Sunday at the MuchMusic Video Awards, this will be the true test for this reunited boy band to see if it’s worth reuniting. If they bomb, then possibly their albums sales of their new upcoming album and tour may fail as well. If you know it’s been well over ten years since they have done anything as a band. Well, more like 12-13 years. Again who is keeping track?
I for one am against them re-forming perse. It’s just that Donnie Whalberg is the only one who had any sort of career after New Kids On The Block disbanded the first time. Whalberg become a moviestar. What did other guys do? Jordan Knight attempted a solo career but that didn’t go so well. The other ones were not even noted in the media. So it’s not like we have been waiting 14 years for this unlike The Eagles and their live album “Hell Freezes Over.” They had their 15 minutes and by 1994, they were falling downward. That’s why their album “Face The Music” bareley made into the top 40 in North America and the United Kingdom.
So why reunite? Do they think they still have what they had back in the day? Who knows? That does still remain to be seen and they will show if they still have it on Sunday at the MMVA’s. Sure they sold millions of albums back in the day. But this is a different day in age. Just because they were sucessful back than doesn’t mean they will have the same level of success now. It remains to be seen.
Another issue with them reuniting is their fanbase. Will their core fans they had back in the day still be a fan? Sure there will be those die hard fans that will be a fan no matter what. But will they have the number of fans like they did back in the day? Again, that is something that remains to seen. Another issue with the fans is will they garner new fans. That’s what will be the determining factor in any possible new found success. If don’t have fans, people buying your music, than you will not succeed.
I never was a fan of them, but my sisters had their tapes when I was growing up, so you got to know the words of songs like “Step By Step,” “The Right Stuff,” among others. In the end if they don’t succeed don’t say I didn’t say they may not succeed. If they do succeed, the more power to them.
Thanks for reading and see you on the flipside!
Mr. C.C.
