We may be bad at football, cricket, rugby and tennis, but finally the Brits have brought home some silverware. |
Birmingham Salvo are a team of pro-gamers who have just been named winners of the 2008 Championship Gaming Series.
Winning the cash prize of $500,000 meant beating competitors from 18 countries in the games Counter-Strike: Source, Dead or Alive 4, Forza Motorsport 2 and Fifa 08.
The final bout between the ten-strong Birmingham team saw them smash San Francisco’s OPTX 22 – 15, only losing in the Dead Or Alive 4 round.
Two of the teams players were also awarded Most Valuable Player (MVP) status for their efforts.
The CGS were broadcast on Sky One having been set up in 2007 by BSkyB, DirecTV and Star and will be back next year where the Brum based team will fight to defend their title.
