So how do you go about replacing someone as influential as William Peterson on CSI: Las Vegas? You get Laurence Fishburne to take over, of course.
A few weeks after the announcement of Peterson’s Gil Grissom leaving the offices for the last time, CBS announced the arrival of a new cast member in the form of Academy Nominated and Box Office favourite Laurence Fishburne.
Arriving in the ninth episode of the ninth series of the hit show, he plays ‘a former pathologist who is now working as an itinerant college lecturer, teaching a course in criminalistics’. I quoted all that because there really is no simple way of saying that.
His character is fascinated by criminal activity and why it happens, but sees those behaviours and tendancies inside of himself. That eventually leads him to the CSI team where he eventually joins the team himself as a Level 1 agent.
The producers of CSI, Carol Mendelsohn and Naren Shankar, said that Fishburne was their ‘dream choice’ for the role ranking past John Malkovich and Kurt Russell for the role.
Fishburne said “I am elated and delighted to be joining the cast of ‘CSI.’ I look forward to a wonderful collaboration with the creative and talented team of such a successful and distinguished show.”
And so am I. Fishburne is one of my favourite actors going and he can bring so much to any role. Especially with the character he’s been given, I’m really excited about this role. In a way, it makes up for the loss of Peterson and Fox, even though the show won’t, and hasn’t been, the same without them.
