IT’S OVER 50,000!!!!!

Posted by Drew Kuminski On October - 13 - 2008

Hi, I’m Entertainment Newsline’s Drew Kuminski.

Yes, thank you… thank you.  No please.

All right onto the point of this, coming up in just a few weeks, many different writers the world over will begin a unique odyssey.  One someone who is outside the common knowledge of a novelist might find to be crazy.  All of which is in honor of the yearly tradition since 1999 known as National Novel Writing Month, or NaNoWriMo to those in the know.  The goal of this challenge is in the course of November 1st, all the way to November 30th.  To make or progress to a 50,000 word novel.

Hold on, did I just hear a large collective gasp?  Well maybe I should explain.

First things first this is an attainable goal, as shown by the yearly chart of those who entered, and whose who completed the goal.

1999: 21 participants and six winners
2000: 140 participants and 29 winners
2001: 5,000 participants and more than 700 winners
2002: 13,500 participants and around 2,100 winners
2003: 25,500 participants and about 3,500 winners
2004: 42,000 participants and just shy of 6,000 winners
2005: 59,000 participants and 9,769 winners
2006: 79,000 participants and 13,000 winners
2007: 101,510 participants and 15,333 winners

Clearly it is possible, however we should back up a little bit.

Truth is that the event isn’t suppose to be about making a difficult goal.  What it is all about however is beginning on a project many people procrastinate the Hell out of.  Face it, in your life you’ve met many people who would tell you that they wish they had the time to work on a novel however they simply didn’t have the time for it.  By doing this event, you force yourself to have the time to write.  Hence the fact that even if you do not make the goal, you still begin on a project that you wanted to do.  Not to mention that many of the finished novels have gone on to become published, with one even making the top of the New York Times’ best selling list.

One of the best parts about NaNoWriMo is that in terms of what can and can’t be written.  There are no rules.  Fan fiction, metafiction, even novels written like poems.  The motto of the organizers is “If you believe your writing a novel, we’ll believe your writing a novel too.”  This allows for plenty of creative freedom in what to write.

I myself will be taking the plunge again for the third time this year (What is with me and events that go into three?)  This year just to try something different, I’ll be doing a slightly different version of fan fiction.  Since Marvel has been in such shambles as of late.  I decided to take a new look at the Fantastic Four franchise.  With different characters and variations on the origin story.  I’m excited for it and as I go along with it I’ll be putting it up on my Deviant Arts page at haikufrenzy.deviantart.com .  If you’d like to partake in the chaos of NaNoWriMo yourself, you can sign up right now on the official web site at www.nanowrimo.org.

Will Harvey Dent Return In Batman 3? ***SPOILERS***

Posted by Ricky Leone On July - 29 - 2008
I’ve just read the most retarded debate about an intellectual topic, whether or not they’ll bring Harvey Dent back for the third Batman film.  I use my terms very carefully, and I couldn’t come up with a more fitting word than “retarded’ to describe what I just read.  Let me tell you why.

Ask EN Problems

Posted by Eoin Mason On July - 28 - 2008

As you know by now, Ask EN is a new section set up with the help of new writer Chris Nelson in the hopes of getting your questions answered by us here at Entertainment Newsline.

We have had some issues to do with this feature for some time even though it is one of our highest clicked on options. The main one being that the email set up for the system is wrong.

That has now been sorted out and it should be fine now to send in your question.

I would like to apologise for any problems caused by this glitch and anyone reading this who has sent a question in, feel free to send in your question again as now, it’ll be answered.

Hopefully now, the Ask EN section becomes a big part of Entertainment Newsline

Ask Entertainment Newsline

Posted by Chris Nelson On July - 9 - 2008

A new interactive feature for all readers of and contributers to Entertainment Newsline. If you have any questions relating to anything in the media past, present of future, and the Entertainment Newsline information badgers will research the answer for you and post it in a weekly column here on the site. Each week I’ll cover the factual based questions and then once a month we will have an EN roundtable for any opinion based questions where as many contributors who are available will answer.

So send us your questions. Email me at chris_nelson36@yahoo.com, the only proviso being you put “ENQNA” in the subject line. I look forward to getting the ball rolling.

Just bare in mind it will be first come first served, similar questions may be grouped together and I can be an opinionated, cantakerous so-and-so from time to time (just ask Eoin, Ricky or Ant), so the answers may not always quite fit the mould.
